Aachen Mathematics is among the departments in Germany that are strong in research. This is evident in its top placements in international rankings such as the CHE Excellence Ranking, which placed Aachen in the Excellence Group. All important fields of mathematics, from algebra to number theory, are represented in research, each with a certain application orientation. Many research groups also conduct interdisciplinary research and are actively linked to other RWTH faculties, Forschungszentrum Jülich, or other institutions.
