What does that mean?
RWTH Aachen self assessments are online advising processes for deciding what to study. Participation in one (rarely two) of these self assessments is mandatory. You can find which self assessment you need to take for this subject in the course of study description under "Prerequisites". You will need to show proof of participation in a subject specific self assessment in order to enroll (not to apply). You can print out the participation certificate yourself.
Dates and Deadlines
The following informations applly to all first-year students in the Mathematics Bachelor course.
The Mathematics Bachelor course of study is laid out over six semesters, and ends with a Bachelor of Science, B.Sc., degree. In addition to an education in the subject of mathematics, the course of study also provides students with an education in one of the elective application subjects. Studies may be started only in the winter semester.
Studies are composed of modules. Each module is made up of a lecture, labs, and in individual cases tutorials or discussion hours. The assessment for each module takes place at the end of the semester. If you pass the exam, you will receive ECTS points (credit points) for the class and a grade.
A module assessment typically consists of an exam, which takes place directly after the lecture at the start of the lecture-free period. A repeat exam takes place at the end of the semester holiday. A third attempt can first be made one year later.
Caution: You may attempt to pass the assessment for a module a maximum of three times! If you fail the assessment three times, your enrollment will be terminated.
You must have acquire 180 ECTS points by the end of your studies. This includes the Bachelor thesis with 15 ECTS points and the application subject with 30 ECTS points. The final grade on the Bachelor diploma is a weighted average grade of all the grades earned in the individual modules.
The ECTS (European Credit Transfer System)point system describes the average workoad of a student. One ECTS point corresponds to a workload of 30 hours. If a modul is worth 9 ECTS points, one should expect a workload of 270 hours during the semester for this module. The abbreviation CP, credit points, is used alternatively to ECTS points.
After you enroll, you must choose an application subject. The subjects physics, computer science, business administration, and economics are currently offered. Further minors such as medicine, biology, philosophy, and geology can be approved upon request. However, please note that the class schedule for the minors requiring approval may overlap with classes for mathematics.
If more than 120 ECTS are accounted for in the ZPA, you may choose further modules from the Master course catalogue. You cannot register for these modules and exams via Campus Office. Rather, you should ask the respective lecturer for the module to issue you a certificate of performance after you have passed the exam. After you enrollment has switched to the Master course of study, I will recognize and accept these certificates of performance.
Important: These modules cannot be counted towards the Bachelor course of study!
The entire composition of credit points listed above comes to 150 ECTS points. Another 30 ECTS points in the application subject are then added to this.
The modules "Fundamentals of Mathematics", "Accompanying Practical Experience", "C++", Practical Period and Presentation and Soft Skills" are not graded. The module "Fundamentals of Mathematics", is oriented on material you learned in school. You must first successfully complete this class before taking an other mathematics modules.
