The standard period studies is four semesters.
Any individual who successfully completed the Bachelor course of study in mathematics at RWTH Aachen may enroll. The following admissions requirements apply to all other interested individuals:
Applicants for the Master course of study in mathematics should be able to submit proof of knowledge in the following areas:
- Analysis with at least 24 ECTS,
- Lineare Algebra with at least 18 ECTS,
- Numerical Analysis with at least 9 ECTS,
- Stochastics with at least 9 ECTS,
- Additional courses with at least 27 ECTS from the areas of algebra/computer algebra, complex analysis, ordinary differential equations, functional analysis, number theory, mathematical logic, graph theory, topology.

There is a set number of points to be acquired, similar to the Bachelor course of study; this is 120 credits, broken down as follows:
- Mathematics Modules: 69 credits
- Master's Thesis: 30 credits
- Application Subjects: 21 credits
The mathematics modules are broken down into three groups: pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and concentration. The module handbook provides information on whether a module is counted as pure mathematics or applied mathematics. The concentration section typically designates the field in which the Master's thesis will later be written. Here, modules from the pure or applied mathematics section can be selected - as long as they thematically go together.
Please make sure to consider that you must modularly register for all exams and courses - exactly like in the Bachelor course of study.
The following table illustrates an example curriculum.:
"Elective Module (9)" means: Courses with 9 credit points in "pure mathematics" were taken in the first semester of this example.

Physics, computer science, business administration, or economics can be chosen as a application subject. Furthermore, there are the application subjects biology, medicine, philosophy, and electrical engineering, which require approval. You can gladly contact a departmental advisor about a current curriculum.
