Algorithms for optimization in function space
Dr. Anton Schiela (TU Berlin)
Abstract:
Many mathematical problems can be considered as optimization problems in an
infinite dimensional space. Important examples are problems from optimal
control and variational problems from mathematical physics.
Subject of this talk are algorithmic ideas for the numerical solution
of problems in this class with the aim to capture as much structure as
possible from the original problem and thus make use out of it. In this way, the
functional analytic point of view thus leads to new methods, but it also sheds new light on
existing ones.
