Simulation of Tire-Road Interaction
Dr. Corinna Klapproth (Firma Continental)
Abstract:
For the automobile industry, the aspect of driving safety plays a crucial role. Hence, the detailed understanding of different grip mechanisms between road and tire is essential for an efficient tire development process.
The different grip mechanisms are due a broad range of different road conditions as dry and wet roads, snow and ice. On the other hand, the road gets into contact with different rubber compounds that show highly nonlinear viscoelastic material properties. Both aspects make the modelling and numerical simulation of the tire-road-interaction a highly challenging numerical issue. In this talk, the focus is on the numerical simulation of the friction coefficient of a rubber block on dry (and wet) as well as icy roads. In these two examples, completely different friction mechanisms are dominating which therefore lead to different numerical issues.
